JERIMIAH BUSNIAK

I MAKE SHOWS.

Gday big legends, I’m a Content and Creative Director with 15+ years of experience building shows every day.

Jez

Big shows, little shows, funny shows, serious shows. If it looks like a show, I’m gonna approach it like a horse whisperer, understand how that wild stallion works deeply and intensely, and then ride together to… somewhere far away that’s really really good!

WHAT I DO

I know talent, chemistry and shows.

Understanding a show’s DNA, finding and following the passion behind it, listening hard and then pulling at content threads, helping to find and create moments that scale way past the studio. Being a vessel at all times to let them get the best out of what they want to do. And, enjoy it.

Jez in a production meeting

In practice, that means I am very annoying. Topline strategy and direction is valuable, but I reckon it’s made achievable only by understanding every part of the process intimately. Handle the micro so the show can head toward the macro.

The teams that ‘won’ that I’ve been lucky enough to hitch a ride on, felt like we were winning off-air and years before we did.

THE JOB

It’s being everything to everyone and you’ve been lied to if you’ve heard different. Content direction and strategy. Planning for today’s show and where the show is headed in a year. Digital, marketing and PR. Socials, the longform edit. building relationships with any stakeholder that touches the show. Getting my sticky fingers in everywhere. Producing a show is not booking a guest or filling out a runsheet.

I’ve produced and directed content, shows and teams across subjects I certainly wasn’t an expert on: menopause, brain cancer, domestic violence, complex mental health, addiction and plenty more.

Genuine curiosity in people and what they’re curious about, gets you a long way.

I just really deeply love helping great people make their thing greater’er. I can’t do anything else. (Note to put Jez in high vis here)

HOW?

Unfortunately this will be a list of very short phrases, that you will hear a LOT if you work with me.

* Herd the cats, Organise the chaos

Not supposed to imply every show is chaotic. It means finding the places to put structure around ideas, boundaries around headspace before/during a show, protecting the performance space, and lots and lots of boring note-taking and attention to detail. Killing dumb workflows. Nail the micro so we can all be focused on the macro. I come pre-packaged with spreadsheets and websites. That is VERY attractive to some people, ya know.

* What’s next, let’s punch it up

A good idea or a great moment should never go unpunished. Building mountains out of molehills is my specialty. Building upon things that work, jumping on great moments and seeing what else we can do. Turn that one off comment into a live show. Remember that he said she loves this, immediately start working on surprising her. That segment worked well, how do we scale it up and take it to the right client. Always be on the lookout for scalable moments, threads, ideas.

* Listen HARD

So hard your face is red. AI transcription is RUBBISH. Listening for tiny moments that become a content thread to pull on. Listening for that unique chemistry between hosts, then bottling it up and showing the world. Listening for risk, compliance, safety. Listening for nuance off-air, while grabbing sushi for lunch. It’s difficult to put into words how much of a difference this makes when it’s a team agreement. Listen SO HARD.

* Win off-air, win on-air

The teams that make up the wonderfully strange organism of ‘the show’, are directly and absolutely related to its success. Creating the right culture of belief in what we’re doing, where we are headed, and that every person involved is equally in its success is absolutely fundamental. I have never seen a team with a bad culture win. Ratings, clients, work/life balance, whatever success means to you. I am as invested in the team as the talent. Cause these are the wonderful people I’ve sat next to my whole working life.

A radio show team in studio

* Be (almost suspiciously) curious

About my people. About their interests. About what makes them smile, what’s hard for them. About their workflow, how they do it, what makes them great it. Being curious means I genuinely feel like I can work with anyone, on anything, and my favourite people are of curious too.

* EMPLOY ME TO HEAR 34 MORE

You won’t be able to shut me up. I have a framework that works for building great teams, and then great shows.

I am so passionate about what I do. If you’ve got a show, big or small, serious or funny.

The Project Reunion

Got Waleed Aly, Dave Hughes and Pete Helliar in a room to close the book on 16 years of The Project.

Bespoke podcast special

When Channel 10 axed The Project after 16 years, the whole country had an opinion — but nobody had got the hosts in one room to actually talk about it. So we did. A bespoke Carrie & Tommy podcast special with Waleed Aly, Dave Hughes and Pete Helliar, recorded as the show was signing off for good.

Not a nostalgia reel. A real conversation — Waleed on being Muslim on prime-time television, Hughesy on why he walked, Pete on nearly turning the show down, Carrie on being pitted against Lisa. The kind of thing you can only make when the talent trusts the room.

The timing did the heavy lifting: The Project's farewell was a national news story for weeks, and this was the definitive "in their own words" version of it — made for on-demand, not TV.

The Big 5 Marathon

$1.19M raised, 5M+ organic views, one cause.

Integrated campaign

One of the toughest marathon courses in the world, through an African wildlife park — the start got pushed back half an hour because elephants were standing on the track. $1.19 million raised, 5 million-plus organic views, and content that travelled a lot further than the finish line. All for Carrie's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, with La Roche-Posay and PUMA.

We also cut a bespoke podcast special around the run — the whole story, start to finish, made for on-demand.

The Time Game

Five seconds, one clock, and a $100k payout.

Flagship format

One clock. Five seconds. A listener has to stop it dead on 5.00 — not a millisecond either side — and the jackpot climbs $100 every week nobody does. Simple enough to explain in a sentence, impossible to stop playing along with.

Over about five years it went off four times. Carrie once threw $20,000 of her own money onto a $10,000 pot, dead certain it was safe — and watched Nick from Victoria stop the clock on the money. Rachael from NSW won $50,000 in one of the most emotional moments we ever put to air. Nick from Queensland walked away with $100,000. And Andy Lee once strolled in off the street, played on a stranger's behalf, and nailed it — nobody could believe it, least of all him.

A weekly reason to tune in, a machine for real moments, and a format built to travel far past the radio.

Tourism campaign
Wheely Good Adventure

Took the national drive show on the road in a motorhome for Tourism & Events Queensland.

Tourism campaign

A national tourism campaign for Tourism & Events Queensland that got the drive show out of the studio and — for the first time ever — into a motorhome. Four days, four coastal broadcasts, one very long road trip up Australia's Holiday Highway.

Carrie & Tommy went live from K'gari, the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and the Gold Coast, with daily destination content stretching all the way to the Whitsundays. A $5,000 Queensland holiday on the line for listeners, and a client brief that felt like an adventure instead of an ad. Built with dentsu Queensland and The Studio.

National drive show

National content, campaign and talent-led creative for Australia's national drive show — 3 to 6pm, right across the country. #1 FM Drive in Melbourne for three surveys straight, and #1 Drive in Perth. Live event IP

A repeatable comedy franchise built with Melbourne International Comedy Festival — two years running, and a 2024 ACRA finalist for Best Comedy Segment. The hardest I'd laughed in so long. It was nice to feel something again.

The Roast didn't stop when the lights went up. Backstage interviews the second the roasters walked off, the "bits we're legally allowed to air" on the show the next day, clips everywhere after. One night of live comedy, feeding radio, podcast and social for a week.

Crush the Lemon 🍋

A national Hard Rated campaign with a branded car crusher at the end of it.

Branded entertainment

A national campaign for Hard Rated built around the worst car you've ever owned. Listeners phoned in their "lemon" horror stories, and it all built to a car-yard stunt: a branded car crusher, two listeners' cars flattened to scrap — and only one owner walking away $50,000 richer. Branded content with a genuine spectacle at the end of it. Built with PHD and The Studio.

Hard Rated also filled the work fridges and itttt was sho great they are delcioussss (hiccup).

A Specsavers competition that flew the whole national drive show to Paris.

Brand integration

A Specsavers listener competition that ended with the entire national drive show broadcasting live from Paris. Take a brand brief, turn it into a reason to fly the show to the other side of the world, and give a listener the trip of a lifetime. Integration that became an event.

I promise we did actual work over there (this claim is not verifiable).

05About regional WA to national content leadership

I started in regional Western Australian radio, learning to write, produce and deliver across every format — CHR, adult contemporary, urban, country. When you're the only producer, you do everything. EVERYTHING.

From there, I moved into national roles across the Hit Network — promotions, partnerships, digital, social and content. Eventually landing with Carrie & Tommy, leading the amazing team behind Australia's national drive show and its bespoke podcasts.

Lucky enough to snag multiple ACRA wins and nominations, put on large-scale campaigns like The Big 5 Marathon, live event IP like The Roast, and super fun brand partnerships with Disney, Macca's and more.

Now I'm building AudioSnag — putting years of production experience into stupid little sausage audio tools, to save my mates in audio some time. It's fun!
